Months ago Addison asked for a princess party. I don't do character anything including parties, so I immediately vetoed Disney princesses and opted for a generic princess idea. A few weeks ago I showed you the invitation, and you can still see that HERE.
Party favors are always the most important thing for me. I hate sending kids home with a load of junk, but isn't that how party favors go? I decided (thanks to Pinterest) to do tulle wands for the girls and swords for the boys. I found swords at Wal-Mart after Halloween on sale for $.50 - YES, 50 CENTS! The swords came with an eye patch and an earring. I took them all out of the packages, tossed the earring, and displayed them in an ice bucket I have. I made the girls' wands (with the help from a friend) using wooden dowels, ribbon, and tulle. I added a princess crown hair clip with the wands - got them 6-8 in a pack from the Dollar Tree! I liked how both turned out on the table, and I added ring pops for fun.
I also made the wreath for the door. It was my first time to try using deco mesh, so it looks a little rough. Hopefully I will get better at it!
I usually get our cakes from a local bakery (that's growing like crazy), Edgar's Bakery. Edgar's is delicious, but I was trying to feed more people at a better price, so I checked out some other places. I hit jackpot with Publix! Publix has some tastey sheet cakes for a good price. I got their Disney Princess Simple Signature Cake, but I asked them to leave the characters off. I used tulle and a large gift box (thanks, yet again, pinterest) to set the cake on for display. I also put out goldfish, cookies, marshmallows, chips, and dip. We served pizza for lunch - easy and affordable!
Finally, for entertainment for the kiddos I asked two of my sweet girls from school to dress as princesses and come visit with the kids. They did me a favor even bigger and brought boys dressed as pirates! They looked so great, and the kids enjoyed having them to play with. They put on tattoos for the kids and even had sword fights!
It was a day full of fun - especially for Miss Addison. Special thanks to my sweet students who designed the invitation or dressed up for the kiddos and to Abba and Monkey for helping me set up while Jonathan managed the children! Big thanks to all Add's friends that came too! Here are some more party pictures:
